Note on Policy Recommendations for Nutrition Security in India

Publisher: IMC

High economic growth accompanied by a much slower decline in under-nutrition in India. India’s progress in improving nutrition has been unacceptably slow. Given the country’s positive economic trajectory, nutrition has improved at only half the expected pace. As per a position paper on Nutrition Security in India by Indian National Science Academy (2009), ‘’Nutrition Security implies physical, economic and social access to balanced diet, clean drinking water, safe environment, and health care (preventive and curative) for every individual. Education and awareness are needed to utilise these services. Thus malnutrition has a complex aetiology and its prevention requires Awareness, and Access to all the above at Affordable cost.’’
