Food Security and Undernourishment in India: Assessment of Alternative Norms and the Income Effect

The significance of identifying absolute numbers and identity of the food­ insecurity, this brief addresses the following key questions: (i) What is the current and real status of undernutrition and malnutrition in India, (ii) What is the incidence of hunger among poor and non­poor households based on different norms, (iii) Why FAO’s estimate of prevalence of hunger is far lower than the other estimates and if it has some limitations.
