Food Security and Gender: A Case of Mewat District of Haryana, India


This paper examines the food security situation and its gender dimension in one of the most backward and underdeveloped districts of India, Mewat. The specific objectives of this study are: to examine the food security of farming households in Mewat; to identify factors, including the role of gender, that affect household food security; and to determine whether individual food security varies according to gender and identify influential factors. In addition to the introduction section, the paper has five sections: review of literature, methodology, the socioeconomic profile of respondents, results and discussion, and major conclusions.
