Food Security Research in India

An overview of the funding structures and emerging themes, strengths and weaknesses in food security research in India. The purpose of the study was to examine and expand knowledge on food security related research in India, and identify groups undertaking high quality research. The study also focused on understanding the funding landscape for food security research in India. The 1986 World Food Summit, organised by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) defined the existence of food security as “[w]hen all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food, that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life”
