Guidelines for Micro Irrigation through Public Private Partnership: “From The Source To The Roots”

Publisher: NITI Aayog

Water is a necessity for human life as well as for agriculture. Although 70 percent of earth is covered with water only 2.5 percent is fresh water and only 1 percent of that is easily accessible with the rest being trapped in glaciers and snowfields. Over exploitation of water due to high rate of population growth is depleting the existing water resources at critical rate. In order to cater to the needs of growing population and increase the farm income and livelihood the overall agricultural production needs to be increased. One way of doing it is, by implementing better soil-management techniques with focus on irrigation that would provide water to arid regions without putting much stress on existing resource. One way of doing it is by implementing micro irrigation techniques and spreading awareness about the same.
